Canstream are internet radio experts. As the people behind the streaming technology of hundreds of community radio stations around the UK and Ireland, we know what solutions work for stations just like yours. Community media is what we do–we know just as much about licensing, playout systems and funding as we do about servers, networks and data-centres.
With the development of super-fast broadband, and particularly mobile technology, a reliable internet stream is more important than ever–particularly if you’re one of the new breed of online-only radio stations. Internet radio listening is up 37% year-on-year in the UK (RAJAR Q2/2012) and the trend shows no sign of abating.
So why trust your stream to a cheap, unreliable provider, when you could go with the internet radio streaming experts at Canstream?
UK-based offices and infrastructure
Our offices are based here in Sheffield, in the UK, and we’re available for sales, technical support and advice via telephone or email. We’re always here if you need us. Almost as importantly, our servers are also here in the UK. Many cheaper streaming providers cut costs by locating their network infrastructure in far-off countries such as the US. This can cause problems with delays, gaps and buffering if you, and most of your listeners, are in Britain. We only use the highest quality infrastructure, and our main servers are based in London, at the Telehouse data centre in Docklands.
Full statistics and licensing advice
If you stream online, you need to make sure you’re licensed to play the music you use in your output. The music licensing bodies can be a minefield of red tape and complicated forms–we make reporting the information you need to give to PPL easy, collating your listener hours and reporting them back to you. Our statistics are also broken down by day, week, hour, country, and even individual listener IP, giving you all the tools you need to make sure your station is performing to its full potential.
We provide full technical support via phone, email and remote access from our office in Sheffield. We can give you help getting your streaming software up and running and connected to our servers–and we’re always here to talk if you need help or advice with any aspect of your radio service.
Running a special event? Broadcasting a big match? While other providers sign you up to a hard-and-fast limited package, we can tailor a custom solution to fit your needs, and lift your concurrent listener limit for big events. We’ve done it for Celtic Music Radio‘s successful coverage of the Celtic Connections festival, Gaydio‘s Manchester Pride coverage, along with lots of other events around the UK, and we can do it for you. As radio people ourselves, we understand that radio isn’t always predictable, and give you the flexibility you need to run your station how you want.
