Climate Change Report by Marianne Dixon

The problems associated with Climate Change are one of the most important things facing the world today. It is important that people from all generations stop and think about how we can help our planet. Marianne Dixon went along to a Climate Change Fair held in Barnard Castle on Saturday the 16th May.

She spoke to various exhibitors at the fair including the event organiser, our local MP Helen Goodman; Craig Robinson on raising money through recycling print cartridges; inventor Gerry Owens; Mike from Green Building Store and Helen from the Energy Saving Trust.

Have a think for a moment, about what you can do to help save our planet from the effects of Climate Change.

Poet and broadcaster Ian McMillan talks about the Teesdale School's Poetry Competition

Radio Teesdale had a poetry competition for pupils in Teesdale Schools. The task was to write a poem about Teesdale. There was a great many wonderful entries. Ian McMillan, one of the UK’s top poet joined the judging panel and selected Lee Robison of Montalbo Primray School’s entry as the overall winner. Ian also kindly spoke to Annalisa Ward about the competition and read Lee’s poem:

You can visit High Force to see a waterfall.
Our historic castle and Eggleston Hall.
With numerous bridges over the Tees,
A beautiful river overlooked by trees.
Bowes Museum or Egglestone Abbey,
Amazing views that make you feel happy.
Great times to be had, you’ll never fail,
Whenever you visit beautiful Teesdale.

Michael Morpurgo, the award-winning children’s author, has written over 100 books. He is one of Britain’s best-loved and most successful authors. His book “Why the Whales Came” has been adapted for the stage by Birmingham Stage Company and is at the Darlington Civic Theatre from 24 to 28 March. Michael spoke to Andrew Harrison and two young Radio Teesdale Members, Bethanie and Emma, about this play as well as how he started writing, the transfer from book to stage, tips for new writers, how he settles down to writing and his forthcoming book, Running Wild.

Richmond Youth Theatre

Teesdale School Sound of Music

In December 2008 Teesdale School produced the musical “Sound of Music.” This recording excludes any performance of the music due to copyright reasons. However, it does feature six of the pupils involved in the production. Peter Dixon called into rehearsals and spoke to the young people from the school.
