Durham Brass in Teesdale
BRASS: Durham International Festival 2009 is a two-week celebration of internationally acclaimed brass artists and ensembles. Blowing its way across County Durham this year’s festival offered everything from traditional brass bands to afro-beat, Balkan brass madness to classical ensembles, folk-brass to contemporary jazz. As part of the programme the ‘brass bus’ took ensembles out into the County.
On Wednesday 15/7/9 Molotow Brass Orkestar played to an appreciated audience visiting the Barnard Castle Market. The sun shone, visitors were sitting outside the local coffee bar….it was just like being transported to Switzerland! Festival organisers brought the six piece brass ensemble unannounced on a festival bus to Teesdale as part of their programme of extending the festival beyond the city of Durham.
Peter Dixon spoke to the leader of the Molotow Brass Orkestar, as the other members of the band were warming up, together with Andrew Nesbitt, one of the Festival team.
