Mark Mcanaw at the Merchant City Festival
Bill Adair talks to Mark Mcanaw.
From the age of 12, Mark took up guitar lessons from a local tutor, Frank Hendry. Frank put him through his early stages of guitar playing and ignited a flame that would burn till this day. That flame has traveled some since those early days, picking up a variety of influences. Through this, Mark has developed a Folk/Acoustic style and also writes his own material. Since his first appearance on the open stage at Girvan Folk Festival, he has played further performances at various other Folk Festivals throughout Scotland.

Holly Ogilvie at Merchant City Festival
Bill Adair Talks to Holly Ogilvie, a 16 years old singer songwriter from East Kilbride, just outside glasgow.
“I got my first guitar for my 4th birthday and even though my Dad tried pretty hard to persuade me to play it, it lay about for 6 years collecting dust. Around that time I started playing Saxophone and that’s when I really began to get an interest in music. My Dad seized the chance to shove a guitar in my hand again and bought me my first electric guitar. I ignored it too until 3 years ago, when I picked the thing up and decided (attempted) to start writing my own songs. It’s been fun :)”

Next year, 2009, marks the 50th anniversary of the worst mining accident in Scotland in the 20th century, when on 18 September 1959, smoke and fumes from an underground fire at Auchengeich Colliery in the small Lanarkshire mining community of Bridgend caused 47 miners to lose their lives. It was estimated that of the 100 or so miners’ homes in Bridgend, 80% lost a relative in the disaster.
Written by Bill Adair from Cumbernauld and recorded by the Bridgend Sessions Band, the CD ‘Along the Miners’ Rows’ is due for release at the end of September.
